This contemporary arts museum, which is a splinter by the folks
at the MOMA, has been putting up these Saturday party's for a
handful of years now. Warm-Up runs from 3pm until the earlier
hours of 9ish in the heart of Long Island City. Each year the
normally vacant courtyard is transformed into some ephemeral landscape
to play, drink and hit on bitches and dudes. The Brooklyn Brewery
provides the alcohol for $5, which by broke-ass-standards is above
my range after paying the $8 entrance. But considering how clubs
can get you crampy and bloaty and irritable you could skip the
entire place and head cross the street to the legal graffiti building
called the "5 Pointz." Grab a few beers head straight
to the roof and watch the entire party from afar. It's nice up
there, I swear. Or you can inside to check out the museum.About
the only drawbacks of PS1 are the line and maybe the music. You
sort of have to prepare yourself for that type of shit anyway.
C'mon, It's a popular sociable situation with club music so. The
music is less of the non-sense lame house but more finely crafted
and sometimes live performance club music. The line runs around
the block without fail. But if you have patience you'll get in
within 20 minutes. Past musical guests, according to the site
have been "...renowned international acts, including Afrika
Bambaataa, Mad Professor, Richie Hawtin, Danny Krivit, Trevor
Jackson, Francois K, DJ Craze, Charlie Dark, Vikter Duplaix, Fischerspooner,
Frederic Galliano, Kid Koala, Arto Lindsay, The Scissor Sisters,
Ursula Rucker, Derrick May, Swayzak, Luke Vibert, XPress 2, Danny
Wang, and many more." And since this shit ends early you
can hit up the inevitable after-parties or do the same old and
hit up the diner down the street. Maybe even rub-one out. Parties
run every Saturday starting at 3pm ending at 9pm. No dress code.
21 or older to drink. All ages to enter. Check out ps1.org for
more informacion.
