STAR WARS EPISODE 3:
REVENGE OF THE SITH

After the severe disappointment of the first two Star wars prequels and the kick ass Lord of the Rings trilogy, I though this may be George Lucas's only chance to redeem himself as a producer and director. My bitter movie snob heart should have known better.
Though it was really cool to see the creation of Darth Vader and the betrayal of Padame and Obi Wan, most of the running time consisted of confusing and pointless battles. There is just a total lack of the adventure and spills and chills that made the originals such things of childhood awe. But maybe that's because I am a child no more. We start off with Anakin (annoying but better Hayden Christensen) and Obi Wan (darn good Ewan McGregor) rescuing Palpatine (best in movie Ian McDiarmid) from Episode 2 baddie Count Dooku (ever cool as shit Christopher Lee). Anaking slices Dooku's head off and they go back home as heroes.

Padame (hardly ever good and not good here Natalie Portman) tells Anakin that she is pregnant. His troubles have only begun here. Due to the rescue, Anakin and Senator Palpatine's relationship is strengthened. Throughout the prequels and especially "Sith" the one person to give Anakin some real encouragement is Palpatine. Obi Wan tries here, but we feel its too little too late. No wonder why a whiny fatherless Jedi would hang out with him. It's these scenes than shine in "Sith" as we really see the transformation of a republic into an Empire and the rise of it's leaders into absolute evil. It is riveting to watch. A lot of time is spent with Anakin and Palpatine., and Yoda and the Jedi council looking more confused than ever. Then Palpatine gives Anakin and his clone army to execute "order 66". One of the coolest moments in all six movies is when we get to see most of the good guys get snuffed out, especially Mace Windu. One of the first JedI's to get smoked is the black one! Come to think of it, the other ones weren't white either. They were just some lowly alien dudes, no white guys. So Anakin is thrashed by Obi Wan and left for dead and Padame craps out Luke and Leia then checks out. The remaining Jedi's go peace out and hide for a while and The Emperor rejuvenates Anakin into the twisted and evil machine we know and love and root for in the original trilogy (at least I did.) What this trilogy lacks is the humor and the attitude of characters like Han Solo and Princess Leia. It was a bit more human side to the galaxy so far away, the only real connection to their world and ours. And the over use of CGI really killed some of the overall awesome effects. I understand it's necessity for the scope of the movie, but I would appreciate it more if they focused more on people than machines and beasts. Overall I did enjoy it but I feel a bit embarrassed having made such a big deal about it and sweating it so hard. And can someone explain to me why the Siths need REVENGE? Why are they so bitter? Who fucked them over and when? Did I miss an EPISODE? Anyway.

I'll give it a 6/10 and see it three more times.
