ROB ZOMBIE'S "DEVIL'S REJECTS"
Review by: Jerry Horror

The Devil's Reject's is essentially a love letter. A beautifully written and acted one, at that. It is an ode to times long gone. An America full of drive inn's and sleazy old theaters running grind house cinema. I was too young to partake in the latter's gore and fun. I was raised on the home video market. Which at one time, thrived on releasing these previously "banned" and largely unseen treasures. Make no mistake though kiddies, Uncle Jerry has seen them all. Apparently so has auteur Rob Zombie.

Where do we begin then? Well, if you don't like blood, boobs and over the top acting, perhaps this film wasn't made for you. The film has some very disturbing moments and very graphic violence.

Some might even construe the films as "sadistic". Please do not take the kiddies to this one. If any of this bothers you please do not see this film and read another article. Turn back now and read Jake's article on Oreo's. (Oh and screw you Jake, I like the mint one's)

Now, here so begins the review for all you gore hounds and rain coated perverts.

The film is a vast improvement over the original film, "House of a 1000 corpses". The much delayed and much hyped film was a lot of fun, but, not much else. I even compare the first film as sort of a "comic book" prologue to the second film. The Devil's Rejects is a fully fleshed out adventure of the Firefly clan. There's a whole lot going on and I don't want to spoil it for you. You should just go, strap yourself in and have some fun.

If I was an actor, I would have loved to have been in this film. The performances are campy, over the top and loaded with gusto. They truly don't make em' like this anymore. I know that "House of a 1000 corpses" might have left a sour taste in some folk's mouths. Trust me, go
see this it's way more fun and a Hell of a lot better.

I will avoid a tired retread or plot synopsis of this film. It's so much more fun to just go see it. Basically, the Firefly clan is on the run after the local authority's raid their home. Carnage ensues. That's it, that's all you need to know.

The music in this film (mostly 70's southern rock and pop hit's) is very engaging and integral to the story line. It's almost as important as it was in "Goodfella's".

There are a ton of really kick ass cameo's in this film. They are even more kick ass if you're a horror geek like me.

One last note, Rob Zombie had a much more confident hand directing this film. He has improved tremendously. I cannot wait to see what's in store for him down the road.

So here we go, the final analysis:

If you like hardcore violence, southern rock and Sherri Moon's cute little ass, this film is you.

I'm an impartial judge in some ways because horror is my business and life blood. Alas, if a guy named Jerry Horror recommends a horror flick, you should shut your fucking trap and go see it.

(Author's note: Is The Devil's Reject's a horror film? Is it an exploitation film? It made me laugh a lot. Is it a comedy? Or am I just a sick, perverted fuck? These are good questions. I personally think it's all of the above. However due to the dark nature of the subject matter, it's lumped in the horror genre)
